About me
Kelly Wood is Houston Volunteer Lawyers’ first Communication and Outreach Manager. Her role was introduced to the organization to amplify HVL’s mission and impact through strategic storytelling and community partnerships. The driving force behind Kelly’s career is her love of connection – she has been forming relationships in roles at various nonprofits and advocating for underserved Texans for nearly 10 years.
Prior to joining HVL, Kelly held roles at BCFS Health and Human Services’ Common Thread program, University of Houston Law Center’s Pre-Law Pipeline Programs, and Baylor College of Medicine’s Office of Student Affairs. While she was completing her B.S. in Political Science at University of Houston, her passion for informing and mobilizing communities was ignited through an internship with BCFS Common Thread.
Kelly serves on the Texas Access to Justice Commission’s Communications and Outreach Committee, where she collaborates with attorneys to increase awareness of barriers faced by low-income Texans navigating the justice system.
In addition to her professional contributions, Kelly gives back to the community as an Ambassador for Birthday Bash Box, a nonprofit that introduces literacy and social education experiences to underserved children in Houston through joyful birthday celebrations.
