About me
Native Houstonian Lisa Nelsen has served as a staff attorney on the TexasLawHelp team for 2.75 years. Before joining Texas Legal Services Center, she worked as a staff attorney at the Earl Carl Institute for Legal and Social Policy at Thurgood Marshall School of Law for 4.5 years. At Earl Carl, Lisa focused on probate and estate planning as part of the property preservation program. Lisa is also a member of AMOS (A Month of Service) Houston, which provides community education and resources. She presents on probate and handling inherited property bimonthly to the greater Harris County area. AMOS received Mayor Sylvester Turner’s Community Engagement Award in 2023. Before Lisa served as a public interest attorney, she worked in private practice for 13 years in probate, estate planning, and elder law. Lisa obtained a bachelor's degree in English at Trinity University and a Juris Doctorate degree from Mitchell Hamline School of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota.
